Which rug size?

The most expensive mistake in a room is a rug that is too small — it makes the furniture look like it is floating and the room look smaller than it is. We only sell two sizes, so this is a short decision. Here is how each one is actually used.

Two sizes

Four layouts they actually fit.

Every diagram is drawn to scale from above. The shaded rectangle is the rug.

3 x 5 ft

Under a coffee table

Anchors a small seating area without swallowing the room. The table sits fully on the rug; the sofa stays off it.

3 x 5 ft

Beside a bed

Runs most of the length of a queen, so your feet land on something soft getting out. Also the right shape for an entry or a galley kitchen.

6 x 9 ft

Front legs on

The safe default for a living room. The front legs of the sofa and chairs sit on the rug, which ties the group together instead of leaving it adrift.

6 x 9 ft

Under a dining table

You want a chair to stay on the rug when it is pushed back — roughly two feet of rug beyond the table on every side. Works for a four-seater; a six-seater needs bigger.
